AFM ng Activated Filter Media Next Generation
$115.00
Activated Filter Media (AFM®) ng – The next generation and the most superior filtration media on the market.
AFM ng is made from pure selected glass which is safe to touch. It is exposed to a patented 3-step activation process which makes the glass self-sterilising to prevent the transmission of bacteria. It prevents the formation of that harmful ‘chlorine smell’ (called trichloramines) so you can breathe easy.
It is certified for 1-micron filtration rate and is also certified to surpass the performance of any sand or other glass filter media in the world, to provide exceptional water clarity.
- Crystal clear water to 1 micron
- Easy to install without modicfications to existing sand or glass filter
- Healthy air with less DBP’s (Disinfection by-products)
- Saves 50% backwash water and reduces cost of pool maintenance
- Sustainable green product
- Certified and 100% safe to use
This product was originally invented to eliminate the major source of chloramine and THM production (harmful disinfection by-products of Chlorine) to prevent lung diseases and to improve living conditions of sea mammals kept in chlorinated systems. It is widely used in :
• Swimming pools and water features
• Aqua culture and aquatic LSS
• Drinking water
• Waste water
• Industrial water
What is AFM®ng
AFMng is a direct replacement for sand and crushed glass media and filters at least twice as good as sand and crushed glass giving crystal clear water to 1 micron. It is fully bio-resistant, meaning harmful pathogens will not grow on it and is self-sterilising material that does not have to be recharged. AFMng is NSF 50 (pools), NSF 62 (drinking water) and HAACCP (food and beverage) certified
How does AFM® work?
- Mechanical Filtration : optimal particle size and shape for best hydraulic performance in combina-tion with a large surface for adsorption
- Electrostatic Filtration : negative surface charge attracts positively charged particles for electrostatic filtration
- Bio-resistance : self sterilising surface so biofilm can’t grow
So what’s the problem with biofilm?
Sand or regular glass is the largest breeding ground for bacteria in a pool. Filter material represents more than 90% of the surface area in a pool where bacteria can attach and biofilm can form.
- Coagulation of sand leads to formation of channels within the media in the filter and destroys filtra-tion performance.
- It is a substrate and host for growing pathogens like Legionella, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Amoebae, Pseudomonas etc.
- It allows for the formation of tri-chloramines as urea and other nutrients in the water feed bacteria which causes the creation of ammonium. Ammonium reacts with chlorine in the biofilm to form tri-chloramines. Trichloramine gas is discharged into the air.
Available as 21kg bag.
Filter Brite can be used to clean AFM if necessary.
